Buhurt

Buhurt is team combat in armor. Opposing teams enter the list together and try to put other fighters out of the round while protecting their own. It combines steel weapon strikes, grappling, balance, and coordinated movement.

How a round is won

In common team rules, a fighter who is grounded stops fighting for the rest of that round. The side with fighters still standing gains the advantage and can win the round. The official rulebook defines exactly when a fighter is down, when the marshal stops action, and how the match result is recorded.

Team sizes

Team combat is run at different scales. Three against three and five against five are common examples; some events use larger teams. The size changes the fight. Small teams make every decision visible, while larger melees demand more communication and control of space. Check the event schedule for the categories actually offered.

What happens in the list

Fighters may combine approved weapon strikes with clinches, trips, throws, and shield work under the event rules. Armor and weapons are checked, marshals supervise the action, and prohibited techniques can bring penalties. The presence of armor does not make every strike or grappling move legal.

Why teamwork matters

A fighter who is isolated can be surrounded. Teams try to support one another, protect balance, control the rail and open space, and turn a local advantage into a takedown. When one opponent goes down, a teammate is free to help somewhere else. That can change the standing numbers in seconds.

How to watch Buhurt

It is difficult to follow every strike at once. Watch the standing fighters, the gaps between teammates, and any two-on-one pressure. Notice who is trapped near the rail and which team responds first when a fighter needs help. Officials may pause a round for safety, equipment, or a rule issue.

Starting training

Ask a local club about its beginner sessions. Early practice may focus on movement, balance, grappling, and team drills before full armored contact. Ask what to wear and what the club can lend; you do not need to buy armor before your first visit.
